HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT

Hard Drive Failure

Repair Time - 1 to 2 Hours

Hard Drives are one of the most common types of items replaced in a computer.  They get replaced for two primary reasons.

(1)  Imminent failure:  failures are one of the most common types of computer issues.  Failures can result in crashes and data loss.  We at The Computer Doctors replace hard drives all the time, and we strive diligently to recover data from failing hard drives if at all possible.  If your hard drive is failing, this will usually result in error messages, failure of computer to boot up, or sudden slow performance issues.  Bring your system in for a diagnosis before your hard drive completely fails and data recovery becomes impossible.  Most hard drive replacements run between $100 to $200 counting data recovery labor.

(2)  Capacity Upgrades:  Your hard drive can only hold so much.  When you fill up it's capacity, you are forced to decide whether to try to free up space by deleting or archiving data onto CD's or external storage, or buying a bigger hard drive.  Hard drives are measured in capacities of GB (gigabytes) or TB (terabytes).  A terabyte is 1000 GB.  Capacity upgrades usually run between $100 and $200 to perform, including copying of your data from the old hard drive to the new one.

POWER SUPPLY REPLACEMENT

Power Supplies

Repair Time - 30 minutes to 1 hour

Computers that won't turn on often are the victims of power surges.  Luckily, most damage to a computer from these surges is limited to the computer's main power supply.  These are easily replaced and we can do that for you!  Repairs on tower computers generally run between $75 - $150 depending on the make and model.  Laptop power supplies just have to be special ordered and generally do not involve and installation fee.

LAPTOP LCD SCREEN REPAIR

Laptop Screen Broken

Repair time - 1 to 2 hours

This is one of the most frustrating experiences a laptop owner can face.  The dreaded broken LCD screen.  This can happen by dropping the machine, or something as simple as closing the lid with a pencil left inside.  Broken screens may result in no display, lines of distortion, or what look like leaking or bleeding areas.  We can fix it!   Most repairs consist of replacement of the LCD panel, backlight assembly, or the inverter assembly.  Repairs generally run somewhere between $75 - $150 depending on the nature of the repair.

ETHERNET PORT REPLACEMENT

Network Interface

Repair Time - 30 minutes to 1 hour

The network interface on your computer enables your computer to connect to your home network or office network via ethernet cable or wifi networking.  Sometimes, power surges come in through the ethernet cable and destroy the on-board ethernet port.  When this occurs, we can repair your problem by adding a PCI ethernet adapter (if your system has an available PCI slot), or a USB adapter if no PCI slot is available.  We can also go with a wifi USB adapter if necessary.  Repair times are quick, and the cost is usually between $50 to $100 to repair, if it is brought into our shop.  We also can do this job in the field for around $100 to $200.  Note that surges damaging these ports often will also damage ports on your ethernet switch or router, so these may need to be examined also.  We suggest an examination of all your network devices be performed in the event an ethernet port goes bad.
